On the patience of looking
In this long-form conversation with Aperture, Soren discusses the slow discipline behind his documentary practice — returning to the same people and places for years until the camera stops being an event and becomes part of the room.
The accompanying portfolio gathers twelve photographs made between 2016 and 2025, from the industrial edges of Berlin to the night shifts of Copenhagen. Shot almost entirely on 35mm, the selection reads less like a greatest-hits reel and more like a single, unfinished sentence.
“I don’t take portraits. I wait for them.”
Asked about process, Soren describes a practice built on restraint: one camera, one lens, and an insistence on never directing his subjects. “The work is mostly waiting,” he says. “You make yourself small enough that people forget you’re there, and then the photograph arrives on its own.”
The issue is available in print and digitally through Aperture.
